My art style has always changed, never being the something twice.,except for one very distinct style of mine. That would be my animated style,. iIn which I have taken great inspiration from Japanese anime and manga. For my independent pProject, my art style was very much like an anime style. This is because the topic I was pPainting about was from an animated video game called Genshin Impact. I achieved this style by using acrylic paint and lots of time. After hours of designing the outlines for each of my six paintings digitally, I traced them onto a 16’ by 20’ inch canvas and started the base’s with watercolor paint. This gave me more time both plan the colors and the shading for each painting.
Overall, the most interesting thing that I learned about myself and my art well doing this project was that I am a lot faster than I thought I could be at painting. With the stress of deadlines, the painting process went by much quicker than expected. Another thing that was noticed, by not only me but my classmates and friends, is the way I can color match fairly easily,. bBeing able to pair the right colors with the main colors of the paintings. You can see this in my favorite painting, ‘Blessing of Phoenix’. This painting was very much red-themed, with the main parts of the painting being very dark. I paired the darker colors with the light red and pink flowers at the bottom, as well as some light green. These colors really made the painting stand out. The part of each of the paintings that I like the most would have to be the way I did the eyes and the hair. Personally, I enjoy the colors and the way they were painted. Just like any piece of art you see, there will be flaws. In my paintings, you can see this in the autonomy. If I could have changed one thing, it would be to go back and change the way the heads of the subjects look. They are kind of too wide or too small.

After a long and creative seven weeks, my independent project has finally been finished. With the goal to paint six individual portraits of video game characters. All six have been finished and are ready to be shown to the world. And I could not be any happier about it.
The process and time that was taken to complete this project were both long and somewhat difficult. With only having a week to finish a signal painting at a time, it got to the point where someone around the end I was rushing it. But not to the point where I gave up. I put full effort into this project and it shows. The techniques that I used with the acrylic paint include but are not limited to, Dry brushing, color matching, different brush techniques, and more. One of the hardest parts of each painting is the color pallet. Each character has their own in-game design that includes a color palette. But to make them stand out in the paintings I had to fight with the colors to make them look even better. An example of this can be seen in the red-themed painting, I used darker reds and blacks for the character. But then added softer pinks and a light yet bright green for the border of the bottom. I used this color matching in all of the paintings. I think that my use of color was very important, but also the way I used it. With certain highlights and lines in certain places, I was able to capture each character’s personality. You can see this best in the red and purple paintings. With how certain colors in certain places can show a lot of different emotions. I made the character in the purple painting look more tired by using more gray tones under his eyes but also the way the eyes are shaded. When taking criticism from my classmates, I was told repeatedly that the way the hair and eyes are done makes the characters look like they could start moving. I tried my best to make sure that they had more depth and looked less flat on the canvas. If I could change anything about this project, It would be that I would have loved to spend more time on each painting. But due to time constrictions that were not possible. I love the way they turned out either way. We are currently three weeks into the independent projects, Halfway there. If you don’t remember, I am doing a series of six acrylic paintings of my favorite characters in the new Chinese adventure game, Genshin Impact. I currently have three out of the six done and am kind of ahead of schedule. This project has shown me just how fast and truly I can paint under stress and a deadline. It has been a little stressful and made me want to stop a few times already. But we keep going! One step at a time.
I have run into some problems throughout this project. Mostly related to skin tone and color matching. When you look at the paintings you see colors that go well together, but it did not start that way, the amount of times I have remixed and done the color of their skin tones is endless. Because each character has a different color pallet, means that I also had to try and make them kind of unified. My way of doing this so far has been to do watercolor backgrounds that are simpler but in different colors. My techniques and way of painting are quite average as well. I do most of my blending when the paint is still wet, but sometimes I run out of time and it dryes on me. Those are the kinds of problems I have well doing this project. To tell you the truth I don’t think I could pick a child. Child as in one of my underclassmen. Not a literal child, wait scratch that they are children. But they are children that have surpassed all my expectations, and even made me feel kind of small compared to them. This would because we recently had our research project to mark the end of a semester. These projects for my underclassmen were about certain art movements and time periods. And man can I say that they were amazing. From the information that they showed to the drawings that they had worked on for weeks. Everything came together so well.
There were a few different presentations that study out to me. One of these presentations was about Hawaiian art and the volcano school movement. The presentation was full of color full art and a great speech. The way the student presented this speech was intriguing and fun. Always trying to get the confidence to participate and ask questions. Another student presentation that I liked and was intrigued by was of a VAM 20 student that did their project on Animation. Their presentation consisted of a greatly put-together video with all the information on their topic, as well as hand-drawn mini animation. Overall super cool and very intriguing. There are so many other projects that were great this year, but I would have to say my favorite was of another VAM 20 that did their project on Banksy the street artist. This project was simple and easy to understand. Unlike the others, this student made a presentation that was straight to the point and full of information. They had done a spray paint on a bored as their visual, which was simple yet made a point. My presentation was of the serialist artist Salvador Dali. which may I say, was a bit weird. I had done a painting that consisted of banzai trees and some Salvador Dali paintings. It was kind of done in a serialist way as well. I’m fairly proud of the amount of information that I fit in my prevention. But I struggled a fair bit with the painting process, losing motivation a few times throw out the project. If I had to change anything, it would be the mindset that I had to go into this project and the one that I had when I was done. Over all I have found out that I may not be the best and sersilest painting, but I would like to get better and try that kind of art style more often. After this project, I can strongly say im not the fondest of resuching and speaking in front of people, how ever I will try to get better. One could say that a detected gamer will always buy game merchandise. Be this from in-game add on’s all the way to posters. But all of this can get a bit pricey. But it doesn’t have to be for an artist. That is what has inspired me to paint my own merchandise. Having complete control over what the outcome is going to be, even the size. This project will take around seven weeks, doing one painting a week with a week to plan/draw the canvas. The focus of the paintings is on A video game that is fairly popular at the moment, Genshin Impact. The game has a wide arrangement of characters, monsters, weapons, scenery, and powers. I have chosen to do six characters that are based on the elemental powers in the game. Being; fire, water, wind, earth, lightning, and ice. Each painting will have a color pallet that is designed for the character and the element. The size of the canvas will be 16’’ by 20’’ and will be of only the top portion of the character’s body. Giving me time to make the paintings more detailed. To give the reader a quick idea of what they will look like; the canvas will have the character’s top portion, some relevant items from the game, and some of the monsters that are relevant to that character. I will also be adding a border around the characters that have their element in mind. By the end of this project, I hope that I as an artist and gamer as well as the viewers of my art enjoy the paintings. As semester two has come around, so have new goals. The goals of the first semester were kind of forgotten by the end. So to make sure that does not happen, I will be focusing on this semester’s goals even more than the last semester’s. If you are new to my page and don't know what a smart goal is, it is a goal that you set that is achievable and relevant to your everyday life or a certain class. This semester I will have two different goals. One for my art class and one for english class.
My smart goal for art class is to get better at digital art. This form of non-traditional art has gotten the better of me quite a few times over the course of the years. There will be a few different assignments that I as an artist will need these skills for. Because I will need higher digital art skills in the future, it only makes sense that this would be my smart goal. By the end of the semester I want to be able to make great pieces of art, while making my own style come through on the digital piece. To me the thought of being able to make a digital art piece look as good or better than my painting or drawing skills, would be amazing. I can achieve this goal by practicing a few times a week and going out of my comfort zone, experimenting with different brushes and layers. The second smart goal that I will be doing over the course of the next semester, will be for English. For the longest time, I have not been able to spell that well. Therefore my goal is to become better at spelling before the end of the year. This stepping stone will affect my future life goals and activities in the long end. To achieve this goal, I will be practicing every day, trying to use spell check less and less. For me this goal is important because spelling is something that I will need in the future and because I won’t always have someone looking over my work for me before I post it. Some of my first thoughts about the copyright or copyleft video are about just what people consider copyright. There are a lot of actions that are considered copyright, even the act of taking a sound and making it sound totally different can be considered copyright. With copyright being anything that you use that you do not own or have rights too. Copy left being the granted permission to use the sound, vidio, film, or art freely. I believe that a mix of the two is grate. Copyright protects people from stealing credit, well copyleft would allow creativity to expand and throw out the world.
Media production is the production of things like TV shows, movies, songs and more. Media consumption is when you are watching a movie on the TV or listening to the radio. Where you see the said media, There is a high chance you have paid for these services, giving you access to the said media. You can't have one without the other. Media production gives you the media for media consumption. Over all the idea of copyright has its uses, protecting theft and more. But being able to add to and make media even better is also very useful. I think that you should be able to use parts of visual art. Kind of getting the inspiration for a painting from a photo. But not copying it to the T. as a visual artist I believe that I should be able to look at a painting and get motivation for my own peace. But never should someone trace and copy a peace of art. When you have no idea what is going on in your life.
Over the next four months I will be working on a goal that is a smart goal, which is to achieve a goal. My smart goal is to do a very detailed painting that is around 18-20 inches. This project will span over four months and will be worked on at least two hours every weekend to make sure that it is finished by January 3, 2021.The painting will be done at my house in my basement with only me working on it. This project is important to me because of the skills I get to practice and work on for my VAM academy. By working on it every weekend, it will be achievable for one person to do it. The materiales will be acrylic paint with a water color base. If you were to look at the time span of the project, in the first month, the base should be done. In the third, the colors should be done and some of the small details as well. My personal smart goal is something that will take a lot of dedication and studying. I will be finishing my Bio courses all in one year. That includes Bio 20 as well as Bio 30, taking Bio 20 in the first semester and Bio 30 in the second semester. By working ahead and studying hard every day after school, this goal is very achievable. By finishing both of the courses, I will not have to worry about it next year. Having both of the Bio’s done by the end of the year only leaves me with 5 classes that I have to take and 3 spares so I can work more hours at work. Over the last few months, I have been working on my independent project. But because of the stuff that has happened in my life lately I could not finnish everything I wanted to. I Have done over 5 hours a week to do my project, but the outlines have token longer than expected. I have finished a few of the smaller drawings though, as well as the big main drawing.
I have most definitely learned more about my art style over the few weeks and got to experiment with some mediums that I wasn't familerwith. In the smaller drawing, I mostly use pastel chalk and paint. Well in the larger one i used paint, watercolor, chock and copic markers. With the smaller drawings, I wanted each of them to have an original background, so they weren't all the same. The colors for each background were chosen to either make the charters pop out or blend well with them. As you may know if you have read any of my pervise blogs, this project was meant to come together with one of my upper classmens projects. But due to her not having a phone that doesn't work, I have no clue if she is working on her side of the project. Even so that is no excuse for me not getting it done. I will be posting the finished copies of my art on my blog, so anyone can see it when all of the pieces of art come together. After a long break, I have finally gotten half way through my independent project. Meaning that I have finished the bigger piece of art and only have the six smaller drawings to finnish. The bigger piece of art has lots of darker colors that make the lighter colored charters become the center of attention. For the work ahead I have come up with some techniques That i have tried on the bigger piece of art. At first I was mainly going to use watercolor and acrylic paint, but after some trial and air I have figured out that using a base of copic and chalk pastel is the better choice.
