After a long and creative seven weeks, my independent project has finally been finished. With the goal to paint six individual portraits of video game characters. All six have been finished and are ready to be shown to the world. And I could not be any happier about it.
The process and time that was taken to complete this project were both long and somewhat difficult. With only having a week to finish a signal painting at a time, it got to the point where someone around the end I was rushing it. But not to the point where I gave up. I put full effort into this project and it shows. The techniques that I used with the acrylic paint include but are not limited to, Dry brushing, color matching, different brush techniques, and more. One of the hardest parts of each painting is the color pallet. Each character has their own in-game design that includes a color palette. But to make them stand out in the paintings I had to fight with the colors to make them look even better. An example of this can be seen in the red-themed painting, I used darker reds and blacks for the character. But then added softer pinks and a light yet bright green for the border of the bottom. I used this color matching in all of the paintings. I think that my use of color was very important, but also the way I used it. With certain highlights and lines in certain places, I was able to capture each character’s personality. You can see this best in the red and purple paintings. With how certain colors in certain places can show a lot of different emotions. I made the character in the purple painting look more tired by using more gray tones under his eyes but also the way the eyes are shaded. When taking criticism from my classmates, I was told repeatedly that the way the hair and eyes are done makes the characters look like they could start moving. I tried my best to make sure that they had more depth and looked less flat on the canvas. If I could change anything about this project, It would be that I would have loved to spend more time on each painting. But due to time constrictions that were not possible. I love the way they turned out either way.
